Media pluralism exists in the country, but in the southern provinces and the eastern province of Nord-Kivu, the media have been badly affected by the conflict between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and the armed group the M23. Since taking Goma, the M23 have been exerting increasing control over the media by targeting local outlets.
